Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams
“Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic.”
This is the last text message Lena Nguyen’s twin sister, Cambry, sent to her three months ago – right before she jumped off Hairpin Bridge. Lena has become obsessed with scouring records of her sister’s last days and especially, her last hours. She learned through police records that Officer Raycevic pulled Lena over shortly before jumping off the bridge. As the book opens, Lena has come to Montana to interview/interrogate the officer about the events leading up to Cambry’s death.
The book alternates between present day Lena’s confrontation with Officer Raycevic and Cambry’s story. Cambry’s story is actually told by Lena and is what Lena believes happened in her sister’s last hours. This was an interesting premise as you were never sure how much you could believe of “Cambry’s” story. We also read Lena’s blog post which is scheduled to drop after her confrontation with the officer and occasionally have access to Officer Raycevic’s thoughts.
This story takes place over a short period of time and has intense and suspenseful action scenes which was similar to Taylor Adams’s “No Exit.” There were a number of twists and reveals throughout the book that kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not love this book as much as “No Exit” (which is on the top of my suspense/thriller novels of all time) but it was definitely a pulse-racing read! That puts it in the good thriller column for me! Taylor Adams has made it to my “must-read” list!
