Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane
“There’s more than one way to end a marriage” – Tagline on Book Cover
If that tagline does not draw you to this domestic suspense novel, I don’t know what will! In case you need further nudging though, here’s my best effort.
Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town in upstate New York with her husband, Aaron. He is a beloved high school teacher and Lila is the “pretty little wife” who is seen by many in the community as cold or standoffish. One day, Aaron does not show up to work and his boss and brother are extremely concerned. They say this is not like him at all. The one person who seems indifferent to the situation is Lila. However, Lila is VERY concerned because she was the last person to see her husband – alive or dead. And he isn’t where he is supposed to be.
Thus begins a very tangled and twisty tale. I could not help but like Lila. She has quite the backstory and has endured much during her life. She is intelligent and savvy. The opening “scene” is one I will remember for a long time. Wow. It was so intense and drew me into Lila’s head and life so that I had to keep reading and find out what was going to happen. It was definitely one of the best opening scenes in a domestic thriller that I can recall reading.
This domestic suspense was a worthwhile read and I hope Darby Kane writes some more of them! I will be reading if she does!
