Where They Found Her by Kimberly McCreight
This was the second book I read by Kimberly McCreight (the first being Reconstructing Amelia) and it sucked me in from the start!
Ridgedale, New Jersey – The body of a newborn baby is found in the woods near the town’s prominent university. The identity of the baby is a mystery – who was the baby’s parents and what happened to her? Molly Sanderson, a freelance journalist, is new to Ridgedale and is called by the local newspaper to cover the case. Molly hesitates because recently had severe depression caused by the stillbirth of her own baby. She decides to take the assignment and begins a deep-dive into the town’s secrets.
The book is told from the perspectives of Molly Sanderson; Barbara (a local supermom and wife of the Chief of Police); and Jenna and Sandy (an “other side of the tracks” mother/daughter duo). There are also audio transcriptions of Molly’s therapy appointments, newspaper articles, journal entries and online chats throughout the book to further the story and enlighten the reader. I really love mixed format books when done well and I think Kimberly McCreight has mastered this style.
This is a fast-paced suspense that kept me hooked! I listened to this in audio and enjoyed the narrators for the voices of the three main perspectives. I recommend it as a read or a listen!
