Rest stops will never look the same to me after reading No Exit by Taylor Adams. Add in a snowstorm and forget it! This story begins as Darby Thorne is traveling in Colorado from college to her dying mother’s hospital bedside. A snowstorm hits and Darby has to stop at a rest stop.
“Here Darby was, the underachieving secondborn, trapped at a lonely rest stop just below the summit of Backbone Pass, because she’d tried to race Snowmageddon over the Rockies and failed. Miles above sea leavel, snowed in inside a ’94 Honda Civic with busted windshield wipers, a dying phone, and a cryptic text message simmering in her mind.”
Darby gets snowed in with four strangers. As she goes outside to try to get a cell signal, she sees what looks to be a little girl in a cage locked in a van. Whose van is it? Who can Darby trust?
Darby fights for her life and the life of the captive as she tries to figure out what is happening and how she can get help at a remote rest stop during a blizzard.
You’re in for a wild, twisting, adrenaline filled ride with this one. I highly recommend it! And read it soon – while rest stops are closed, so you can’t use them anyway!
