Nosy Neighbors by Freya Sampson
Peek inside the historic Shelley House in the village of Chalcot and you will find a quirky bunch of neighbors living under the same dilapidated roof. Omar and Ayesha, father and daughter, are figuring out how to be a family of two after the passing of Ayesha’s mother. Tomasz and his pit bull, Princess, don’t get along with Joseph and his Russell terrier, Reggie. Gloria Brown has unfortunate taste in suitors that leads to trouble for her and mysterious, yet noisy Vincent lives in Shelley House too. Finally, septuagenarian, Dorothy Darling, has lived there more than thirty years, rarely leaves the building and makes note of everything that happens inside the walls of Shelley House.
One day, Dorothy notes a pink haired twenty-something walking up to the building and soon finds herself neighbors with Kat, who is subletting a room from Joseph. The two become fast enemies until circumstances force them to work together to save their neighbors from eviction and to prevent Shelley House from being torn down. As Kat and Dorothy start to understand each other, they learn appearances were not what they seemed.
This had all the charm and cozy feels of Freya Sampson’s previous books with the addition of a bit of a mystery added into the mix. The characters were eclectic and charming and the story has elements of heartbreak sprinkled with plenty of warm fuzzies. I loved this book and the characters I met in its pages!
