Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth
“Even after all these years, yearning for the love and attention of someone who couldn’t give it to her was much more comfortable than actually receiving it.”
Alicia, Jessica and Norah consider themselves closer than biological sisters. They met and bonded when they were all in foster care with Miss Fairchild as their foster mother. Their years at Miss Fairchild’s seemingly idyllic horse farm estate were filled with unpredictability and cruelty. The only good to come from those years was their bond of sisterhood that endured.
Now, twenty-five years have passed and they all have lingering issues stemming from their time with Miss Fairchild. They love and support each other but have a hard time letting anyone else into their circle. When they get a call from the police that bones have been found under Miss Fairchild’s home, they need to confront their past and go back to take part in the investigation.
This is a bit of a different type of domestic suspense for Sally Hepworth but it’s another winner. The story is told in past and present from the perspectives of the three sisters. I loved all three of them and their bond and devotion to each other. They went through so much and I felt for each of the sisters. This story hooked me instantly and it was hard to put down!
If you enjoy domestic suspense, I highly recommend Darling Girls!
