If that description doesn’t convince you to read this book, it’s probably not for you. I read that description months ago and could not wait for this book! I loved the author’s The Hacienda and this was no sophomore slump! It was the vibes I loved from her first, but not the same at all (I know that doesn’t make sense, but trust me…it’s a good thing!).

Nena is the daughter of an 1840s rancher in Mexico. Anglo settlers from the North have been trying to take their land and Nena’s father, brother, and the vaqueros have long been holding them at bay. Now something else is threatening their ranch and their lives – people and animals have been found drained of blood. What sinister creature is lurking in the darkness? As battles with the Anglos break out, Nena convinces her father she should ride along as their curandera, as she has been learning how to provide healing services from their ranch’s current curandera. As Nena joins the group, she is reunited with her childhood friend, Nestor, who disappeared years ago without a goodbye. Nestor is a vaquero, Nena the daughter of a ranch owner. Human and creature threats are all around. What will happen to them, the ranch, and the land?

I absolutely loved this book! The setting, the history, the supernatural, the social issues, romance, everything! This book had it all! If you are looking for a supernatural, historical novel, look no further than Vampires of El Norte.
