All the Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby
“All I do know is violence begets more violence and all violence is a confession of pain. Hurt people tend to hurt people.”
Titus Crown was elected the first Black sheriff in Charon County, Virginia, exactly one year ago when the book opens. Titus receives a call about an active shooter at the high school and arrives to discover a beloved teacher has been killed by a former student. Titus, a former FBI agent, has the training and knowledge needed to begin a thorough investigation. As the Sheriff and his team begin to look into the events and those involved, many dark secrets are uncovered. Charon County may look to be sweet tea and honeysuckle, but under the surface, terrible crimes wait to be uncovered.
This is S. A. Cosby’s fourth book, but the first I have read. It was gritty, atmospheric, timely and nuanced. The mystery was compelling, but the characters and setting of Charon County really made it a story that needs to be read. Titus and his father were both characters that made their way into my heart. I don’t give five-star reviews often, but this was a five-star for me.
If you enjoy gritty crime novels, I highly recommend All the Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby.
