The Office BFFs by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey
By Lorraine Swartzentruber
On the heels of their wildly popular podcast “The Office Ladies,” Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey wrote “The Office BFFs.” Based on the time they were on “The Office,” it gives an inside look at how their friendship developed over nine seasons of the show. Fischer and Kinsey banter back and forth in each chapter to give their perspectives on certain events and episodes. It gives the reader the feel of being in a room with the both of them, as if they are friends divulging gossip.
The book includes behind-the-scenes stories like how the cast all got seasick on the Booze Cruise and how Fischer and John Krasinski (who plays Jim on the show) improvised some of their scenes to get genuine reactions on camera. Fischer and Kinsey explain how hard it was being pregnant and working 12 hour days and the amount of work it took to film the intimate scenes with Angela and Dwight. They also share personal pictures they took on set of all the cast members. They both speak about the ups and downs their friendship weathered throughout the years and how they developed the idea for their podcast. The authors’ humor shines through as they talk about wardrobe malfunctions and the lines in the show that made them break character.
It was interesting to learn how things changed for both women as this little show about a paper company in Pennsylvania, morphed into a ratings juggernaut that is now part of America’s collective consciousness. No matter what other work they do, both women will always be synonymous with their TV alter egos, Angela and Pam.
What does the real Angela think of Rainn Wilson? What was in the note Jim hid in the teapot for Pam? If you want the inside story on these questions and are a fan of “The Office,” (Fun) run to the library and check it out!
