Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Rise up girlboss, vegetarian city-dwellers who wear stilettos for every occasion! I see your Hallmark movies and I raise you Book Lovers by Emily Henry! Don’t get me wrong, I am a complete sap for Hallmark Christmas movies with the city dweller converted to small town life. But oh, how beautifully Emily Henry has flipped that on its head and illuminated the heart of the dumped urban woman when her beau falls for the small town woman/life.
Nora Stephens is a literary agent who loves her lifelong hometown, New York City. Nora set aside much of her life when her mother died and she became responsible for her sister, Libby. Libby is now married with two children and another on the way. In what seems to be a desperate grasp for sanity, Libby begs Nora to take a month-long vacation with her to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina. Nora agrees and Libby whisks her off to the small town in the mountains of North Carolina with a check list of adventures for the two to tackle.
While Libby seems determined her sister should meet a small town man, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, an editor she met briefly at home in New York City. Charlie, also from New York, is spending time in town too and his brooding demeanor along with Nora’s determination to focus on her sister, her career and her life in New York make for a fun story.
This book is filled with swoon-worthy romance, but it has so much more than that. I loved Nora’s back story and how her history has formed who she is today. The sisters’ relationship was sweet and heartbreaking. Nora’s character was beautifully developed so that she wasn’t just this cold career woman we see in movies and books, but a richly created character. If you’re in the mood for a romance, I highly recommend this book!
