Chelsea Weibley at the Library
This week’s review is an unputdownable (new word!) story that gave me whiplash. After I finished it, I kept thinking back and trying to put together all of the pieces. It all fit together once I had all the parts, but it was quite the process! The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides was a debut for the author and what a homerun!
Alicia Berenson is a famous artist with a famous fashion-photographer husband. Their lives seem pretty great until Alicia shoots her husband five times and never speaks a word again. She is put in a secure, psychiatric/forensic unit where she goes through the motions but no one knows why she can’t or won’t speak.
Theo is a criminal psychotherapist who applies for a position with this unit because he wants to crack Alicia. He is determined to get her to talk and seeks to uncover the truth of what happened that fateful night years ago.
Those are the basics of this twisty tale and there is not much more I can say because there are too many pieces of the puzzle you can’t know until you read the book. So, if you like suspense, read it! And let us know in the comments what you have read lately that you loved!
