The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Café by Mary Simses
I TRY not to judge a book by its cover, but let’s face it, we all do. How “irresistible” is this cover?! I originally borrowed this one because I am a sucker for a good blueberry treat and that photo just makes me hungry, but the story proved to be just what I needed!
Ellen Branford is a successful Manhattan attorney with a Kennedy-esque fiance. When her grandmother passes, Ellen travels to Beacon, Maine, to hand deliver a letter to the man her grandmother once loved. Ellen has no intention of staying long in Beacon, but upon her arrival, she falls into the bay and is saved by Roy, the town’s carpenter. After the rescue, Ellen discovers the lure of a small town and finds Roy may just be the one person who can help her fulfill her mission in Beacon.
This is a sweet blend of historical and contemporary fiction and I loved the seaside small New England town setting. It’s a light read with heartwarming moments, which is what many of us need right now! It isn’t a new book (2013), but if you haven’t read it and are looking for something charming, I recommend this book! But be prepared to make some blueberry muffins after reading – you will be craving them!
