The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
Imagine you discover a letter from your spouse addressed to you to be opened upon their death, but the spouse is very much alive. Would you open it? That’s the quandary Cecilia Fitzpatrick faces when she finds a letter from her husband in their attic one day. If she opens it, will she wish she would have left it alone? This Pandora’s box of a letter with the secret it contains is central to this story.
Cecelia’s story is not the only one we follow in this novel, but it is the story from the title. We read from three perspectives in this book — Rachel is a mother who has not been able to get past her daughter’s death from years ago and Tess, along with her son, goes to live with her mother after her husband reveals an affair. All three of these women have their own stories and eventually, their stories collide with “the husband’s secret” being at the center of it all.
This is certainly not a new book, but it was one I thoroughly enjoyed. I have tried to read a couple of other books by this best-selling author, but could never get into them. This one hooked me quickly and kept me waiting for the secret to cause extensive ripples, as most secrets do. I definitely recommend this book by Liane Moriarty.
