A “locked room” mystery set at a ski chalet in the French Alps?! Yes, please!
Milla has not returned to the ski chalet, or even touched a snowboard, in the past ten years. When she receives an invitation to a weekend reunion at the exclusive Le Rocher resort, she decides to accept. The friends have not seen each other since the fateful snowboarding season that ended horribly with one in their group going missing and one having a tragic accident.
When they arrive at the resort, they know something seems terribly wrong. No staff are on site, the lift cars stopped working, phones and radios have been removed and a storm is on the way. The group does not know who invited them there (was it one of the five or someone else from that fateful season?) or what the end game will be. They just know they cannot trust anyone and they want to get out of the resort alive.
This was a fast-paced read with alternating “Then” and “Now” chapters that I enjoyed equally. The alternating timelines kept the suspense high and propelled the story. The author, Allie Reynolds, is a former snowboarder, so there is technical snowboarding terminology throughout. I did not find it distracting though and thought it just added to the storyline. I really enjoyed this suspenseful mystery and recommend it to my fellow “locked room” mystery readers who love a good setting!
