Goldy Culinary Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson
We all know about “comfort foods.” Comfort foods are different from person to person, but are usually foods that bring feelings of nostalgia and warmth when you eat them. I believe, for book lovers, there is also a book category for “comfort books.” These are books you re-read over time and each time, you have those nostalgic and warm feels.
Life has been full of lots of sad and scary feels lately, so I have been re-visiting my comfort book series. I absolutely love the Goldy Culinary Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson. I started them many years ago, read the entire series, and have re-read the entire series every few years. I find myself turning to them when life just gets too hard and I need to revisit old friends.
This series is a “cozy” mystery series, so it checks that box without being gory or intense. In true cozy fashion, the books are set in the idyllic small town of Aspen Meadow, Colorado. There are plenty of quirky characters throughout the series. The main character is Goldy, a caterer, who finds herself discovering a ridiculous number of dead bodies in her catering jobs. The food and espresso references always make me long for coffee and a pastry. And I love that some of the recipes for dishes she prepares in the story are also included in the books.
The characters feel like my friends every time I read these books and the town feels like a second home. I would love to know what your comfort reads are! Post them in the comments.
