An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena
Winter, a snowstorm – sound familiar? That’s where I HOPE the familiar ends for you though! This story is set in the Catskills at an inn deep in the woods. It was supposed to be a relaxing and romantic weekend for guests, with fireplaces, snowshoeing and an extensive wine cellar. Then, a blizzard hits and the electric goes out. They continue to try to enjoy the weekend, until a guest is found dead. It looks like an accident, so they try to continue with as much normalcy as possible. Until, another guest is found dead. Panic ensues at this isolated inn as guests try to figure out who or what is murdering the guests. They anxiously wait out the storm and hope for help to arrive.
This locked in mystery set in the snowy Catskills is such a perfect suspense story for this winter! I love a good locked in mystery, but setting has so much to do with what makes them special – and this Catskills inn doesn’t disappoint. In true locked in mystery form, we follow several guests through the story as we learn about the characters and their backstories. The cast of characters also adds interest and intrigue to the plot.
If you are looking for an Agatha Christie style book on these cold, February days, look no further. This is a suspense I found to be worth the read!
