A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that, in the process, he does not become a monster. If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Chloe Davis is a psychologist who works with teens in Baton Rouge. She wants to help teens because as a teen, she needed help. When she was twelve, six girls went missing from her small town. Chloe’s dad was arrested and confessed to the murders of these girls. As the daughter of a serial killer, she was tormented, harassed and blamed along with her older brother and her mother.
Chloe has lived her life seeking normalcy and anonymity. It’s twenty years later and she is engaged and as happy as she is able to be…until, a girl goes missing. Then another. The similarities to her father’s crimes are striking. Is there a copycat killer or is Chloe imagining things that aren’t there? As Chloe begins investigating, we are left wondering who we can trust? Can we even trust Chloe?
What a fantastic suspense debut novel! This was one of those suspense novels where I didn’t want to try to guess what was happening. I was just thrilled to be along for the ride. It was definitely psychologically dark and that added to the suspense. I highly recommend this twisty tale to all lovers of suspense!
