Mary K from the Library – I recently read the book A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier. I enjoy reading her books because they are often a unique take on a certain period in history with something new to learn about that time. In this book, a woman in England between the two World Wars decides she would like to assist a group of women who embroider cushions and kneelers in Winchester Cathedral. In addition to learning about this endeavor, she befriends a bell ringer in the cathedral, so we gain some insight into that activity as well. While the story is fictional, the embroidery and the bell ringing aspects are true, and really piqued my interest. Also, I learned that Jane Austen is buried in Winchester Cathedral–I can’t believe I didn’t know that!
