Chelsea Weibley:
I finished Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton two days ago and am still processing this incredible story. It takes place during two eras of Cuba’s history. We experience 1958 Cuba during the revolutionary period with Elisa Perez, a member of Cuban high society. We also experience Cuba post-Fidel Castro alongside Elisa’s granddaughter, Marisol, who travels from Miami to Cuba after her grandmother passes away. Both stories were beautifully engaging and brought to light so much Cuban history that I did not know. The constant state of fear and lack of freedom described throughout the story were eye-opening. The scenery descriptions were vivid and I finished the book feeling like I had just come back from a trip to Cuba. I highly recommend this book.
