Cindy B:
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Polish author Olga Tokarczuk won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2009. The first American edition was published in 2019 by Riverhead Books. My daughter scooped up a copy at her favorite Brooklyn bookstore and carried it to Palmyra in her suitcase when she packed to sequester in her hometown for the duration of the coronapocalypse. The story is set in a Polish village beset by a series of murders with very odd circumstances where quirky Mrs. Duszejko- the crazy lady who reads the stars and William Blake- claims that animals are the killers. Intelligently written with intriguing juxtapositions of humor and tragedy, sanity and madness, this tome will keep your eyes open and senses spinning throughout the 274 pages. Neither my daughter nor I saw what was coming as the plot resolved into darkness.
